Synopsis
To support individuals pursuing advanced research that contributes
to scholarly knowledge or to the public’s understanding of the humanities.

Disciplines included:
Humanities includes, but is not limited to, the study of the following:
language, both modern and classical; linguistics; literature; history;
jurisprudence; philosophy; archaeology, comparative religion; ethics; the
history, theory and criticism of the arts; those aspects of social sciences
which have humanistic content and employ humanistic methods; and the
study and application of the humanities to the human environment with
particular attention to reflecting our diverse heritage, traditions, and history
and to the relevance of the humanities to the current conditions of national
life.

Eligibility
U.S. citizens and foreign nationals who
have been living in the United States or its jurisdictions
for at least the three years prior to the application deadline
are eligible to apply. Cannot have held a NEH Summer Stipend
in the previous 5 years; cannot have received a major fellowship
or research grant in previous 3 years (A "major fellowship
or research grant" is a postdoctoral research award
that provides a stipend of at least $10,000.) Sabbaticals
and grants from an individual's own institution and stipends
and grants from other sources supporting study and research
during the summer are not considered major fellowships.
