Background

The Norwegian University of Science & Technology (NTNU) was established in 1996 but is a continuation of the academic traditions in Trondheim that stretch back to Schola Cathedralis Nidarosiensis which was founded in the year 1210. NTNU has its modern roots in the Norwegian Institute of Technology (founded in 1910) and the College of Arts and Sciences (founded in 1984). Today, it is a thriving campus offering degrees in Engineering, Architecture, Humanities, and the Social and Natural Sciences. Students at NTNU are encouraged to study abroad, and in the same spirit, NTNU welcomes students from all around the world; over 1,000 foreign students are currently studying at NTNU.

Eligibility

Applicants for the Minnesota-Trondheim Fulbright Exchange Program must be U.S. citizens currently enrolled in any field in the University of Minnesota Graduate School, which can be pursued at NTNU. Knowledge of the Norwegian language is not required, though it is encouraged. (Language study at NTNU is available in summer 2009.)

Stipend and Allowance

Monthly stipend based on living costs in Norway, supplemental health and accident insurance, and book and research allowance. Round-trip transportation is also provided.
