Financing your Graduate Education

Campus bridge across the Mississippi River

For the 2008-2009 academic year, full-time (6-14 credits) tuition will be $10,446 for in-state residents and $17,544 for nonresidents per year.

Teaching, research, and administrative assistantships and fellowships provide the most common forms of support for graduate students.  Assistantships may include a stipend, cost of tuition and a health premium for university-subsidized comprehensive health insurance.  The health insurance package offers, moreover, dental and dependent coverage with premiums substantially subsidized by the Unviersity.   Graduate assistants may expect to pay a small percentage of the premium.  For more information on Graduate Assistant Health Care Plan refer to their website.  Since departments award assistantships appointments as well as other field-specific fellowships and traineeships, please contact the Director of Graduate Studies in your program for more information.  If program funds are limited, students may find campus-wide assistantships through the Graduate Assistantship Employment Office.

If you are a resident of Wisconsin, North Dakota, South Dakota, or Manitoba, you may qualify for reciprocity.  What you pay depends upon your state of residence and the program to which you are admitted.
