Mission
The Office of Postdoctoral Affairs (OPDA) was established in spring 2003 and is based in the Graduate School. The mission of the OPDA is to ensure successful training experiences for postdoctoral fellows by providing a supportive working environment and resources to prepare them for the next step in their careers.
The Postdoctoral Community at the University of Minnesota
During 2007-2008, the University will host a postdoctoral community of 1,100 individuals representing nearly 120
departments and programs in 14 colleges and professional schools on the University’s Twin Cities and Duluth
campuses. The postdoctoral community consists of postdoctoral fellows and associates and research associates.
General Office Functions
Administer the University of Minnesota Postdoctoral Fellowship Program. For details see http://www.grad.umn.edu/postdocfellowship
• Provide postdoctoral fellows with career development tools to increase their competitiveness in the job market.
• Provide individual counseling on personal and professional matters.
• Ensure fair employment conditions.
• Enhance the quality of training of postdoctoral fellows.
• Provide guidance to new fellows regarding campus facilities and services.
• Collaborate closely with the Postdoctoral Association to identify and address issues pertinent to the postdoctoral experience.
Professional Development Workshops
Each year the OPDA offers a variety of workshops intended to enhance the professional development of members of the postdoctoral community. Below is a list of topics that have been offered.
